Syrian government evacuates 6000 Syrians from Sudan
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – A diplomatic source revealed Thursday that the Syrian government has evacuated 6000 Syrian refugees from Sudan.
Al-Watan, semi-official state news agency, said, citing a diplomatic source, that there are daily flights from Port Sudan to Damascus International Airport, as each flight comprises about 170 people.
There are about 2000 to 3000 Syrian refugees still stranded in Port Sudan and this number may be increased, as there are more Syrians heading to Port Sudan, according to the source.
Sudanese authorities and Syrian embassy in Sudan cooperate, as the Sudanese authorities work on providing departures’ needs, the source added.
Foreign Relations Department of Autonomous Administration on North and East Syria (AANES) announced on May 30 evacuating 369 Syrian refugees from Sudan on three batches.
The AANES announced on April 27 the formation of a committee to help the Syrians stranded in Sudan to evacuate them.
