US envoy to Northeast Syria visits Euphrates dam in Raqqa
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, the US Senior Representative to Northeast Syria, Nikolas Granger, visited the Euphrates Dam near the city of Raqqa, where water levels have reached unprecedented low levels.
During the visit, Granger met with the leadership of the Energy Office of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES). Grainger was briefed on the current technical conditions of the dam.
Meanwhile, the Energy Office provided a comprehensive explanation of the dam’s turbines and their operation mechanism. They also touched upon the catastrophic consequences of the continuous decline in the water level of the Euphrates River as Turkey continues to withhold the river’s water.
This visit is the first of its kind by a US envoy to northeast Syria to the facilities built on the Euphrates Dam since the withdrawal of the US forces from the region in 2019 following the Turkish invasion of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) and Tel Abyad in northern Syria.
