SNA faction assaults lawyer in northern Aleppo
ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, a lawyer was assaulted by members of the Turkish-backed opposition factions, also known as the Syrian National Army (SNA), in the town of Akhtarin, north of Aleppo, prompting the opposition’s Bar Association to issue a statement of condemnation.
The Bar Association said in its statement that members of the opposition’s Security and Police Directorate in the town of Akhtarin “assaulted lawyer Ibrahim Abdul-Latif while he was practicing his work.”
The statement added that the SNA members also said insulting words to lawyers and the judicial system.
The statement added that they condemn this “cowardly act,” and considered the attack a crime that requires holding all those involved legally accountable.
The association called on the concerned judicial institutions to take all necessary measures to achieve justice and to increase the immunity of lawyers and preserve their safety and rights according to the law.
Ibrahim Abdul-Latif stated that he was severely beaten at a checkpoint in the town of Akhtarin under the pretext that he violated a traffic law, according to the directorate claim.
He added that a Turkish officer participated in directing the members to beat him.
The areas controlled by the Turkish-backed SNA continue to witness human rights violations with no international deterrence whatsoever, according to human rights activists.
