Turkish border guards beat Syrians trying to cross to Turkey
AFRIN, Syria (North Press) – Turkish border guards assaulted on Sunday several Syrians while attempting to cross the Syrian-Turkish in the Afrin countryside in northwest Syria.
Local sources told North Press that the Turkish border guards assaulted 12 individuals, including three women, after arresting them when trying to cross the Syrian-Turkish border near the village of Nesriyeh, west of the town of Jindires in Afrin countryside.
The sources added that the border guards severely beat and bruised the whole group using iron bars. They handed them over to the Faylaq al-Sham faction on Monday morning at the al-Hamam border crossing with Turkey in the Afrin countryside.
Most of those who want to access Turkey resort to illegal and dangerous smuggling routes in light of unavailable safe ones to either reunite with their families or secure jobs to provide for their families amid the dire economic conditions the country is witnessing.
On April 27, Human Rights Watch (HRW) denounced the indiscriminate shooting at Syrian civilians on the Syrian-Turkish border, and the torturing and using excessive force against Syrian asylum seekers, trying to cross into Turkey by the Turkish border guards.
