SDF kills suspected ISIS militant refused to surrender in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, a fighter of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) was wounded and a wanted man was killed during a raid on his house in a town west of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

A military source from the town of Hawaij Bomasa’a in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor told North Press that an SDF patrol raided the house of Abu Ali al-Sarawi, one of the wanted persons by the SDF on charges of affiliation with the Islamic State (ISIS).

Al-Sarawi resisted the patrol and started shooting, during which an SDF fighter was wounded while the patrol managed to kill al-Sarawi after he refused to surrender, the source added.

The injured SDF member was transferred to a hospital and he is in a very critical condition, according to a doctor at the hospital.

The countryside of Deir ez-Zor witnesses increasing assassinations against SDF fighters, employees of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), tribe leaders, and civilian population despite intensive security operations by the SDF and the Global Coalition.

On April 28, the SDF, supported by the US-led Global Coalition, arrested a dangerous ISIS militant in Deir ez-Zor.

ISIS lost its final stronghold in Syria in March 2019. The SDF, with the support of the US-led Global Coalition, defeated ISIS after fierce battles in the town of Baghouz in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, bringing an end to the so-called caliphate declared by the terrorist ISIS.

After Baghouz, thousands of ISIS militants were transferred to prisons, while their families were transferred to Hawl and Roj camps in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES)-held areas.
