Syria’s NEC records 17 tremors in 24 hours

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian National Earthquake Center (NEC), affiliated with the Syrian government, said that 17 weak tremors had been recorded over the 24 past hours.

The center stated that they recorded nine tremors in Iskenderun, one in Tartus, one in Homs, and six quakes in Turkey.

The NEC noted that the magnitude of the quakes varied between 1.6 and 4.2 on the Richter scale.

Many regions across Syria and Turkey experienced thousands of aftershocks since the February 6 earthquake, leaving behind great losses and casualties.

On Feb. 6, devastating earthquakes hit southern Turkey and northwest Syria, killing more than 50,000 and injuring many more, in addition to destroying thousands of buildings.
