Iraqi parliament delegation denounces Turkish attack on Sulaymaniyah airport
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A delegation from the Security and Defense Committee in the Iraqi parliament denounced on Monday the Turkish attack on Sulaymaniyah International Airport in Kurdistan Region in Iraq (KRI), stressing their commitment to defend Iraq’s sovereignty and governorates of the KRI.
The delegation arrived earlier on the day to investigate the incident that sparked large protests in the city on Sunday.
This came after a Turkish attack on a convoy included General Mazloum Abdi, Commander in Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), forces of the Sulaymaniyah-headquartered Counter-Terrorism Group (CTG), and personnel of the US-led Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS near Sulaymaniyah International Airport on April 7.
In a press conference, the delegation said, “We denounce all attacks on Iraqi territory, especially what happened in Sulaymaniyah, as we defend Iraq’s sovereignty and its governorates in the KRI.”
Members of the parliament and its Presidency, as well as members of security and defense committee are keen to stand by the people of Sulaymaniyah, the delegation added.
The security and defense committee attended to witness this incident and convoy its details to the Iraqi Parliament and Federal Government, as well as to stand by the KRI, Sulaymaniyah and its people, according to the delegation.
The security and defense committee will issue a report and there will be recommendations for the Iraqi government that will include a number of measures which the Federal Government should take towards what happened in the KRI, the delegation stressed.
This is the second delegation arriving from Baghdad since the attack occurred. The Iraqi National Security Advisor, Qasim al-Araji, visited on April 8 the site of the attack and met with the officials of Sulaymaniyah.
