Residents of Syria’s Afrin reject Arab outreach to Syria
AFRIN, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, a night protest was organized in the city of Afrin north of Aleppo, northwest Syria, expressing rejection of Arab and Turkish rapprochement with the Syrian government.
An exclusive source told North Press that the protesters condemned efforts and meetings held between Turkish and Arab figures and the Syrian government in their endeavor to restore ties with the latter.
The source added that the protesters set on fire a photo of the head of the opposition’s Syrian Interim Government (SIG), Abdurrahman Mustafa, due to his silence over the Syrian-Turkish rapprochement.
Additionally, the protesters chanted slogans, calling for toppling of the SIG head and leaders of the Turkish-backed opposition factions, also known as the Syrian National Army (SNA), for their passivity in condemning this rapprochement.
Yesterday on Friday, dozens of people in the countryside of Afrin protested against efforts paid to restore ties with Syria.
In the aftermath of the disaster of the Feb.6 earthquake, many Arab states rushed to help Syria healing from the quake impacts, the thing that gave a chance for the countries to restore ties with Syria.
