Windstorm in Syria causes deaths, material damages
QAMIHLI, Syria (North Press) – Nine people lost their lives and more than 20 others were wounded due to the windstorm that hit Syria on Wednesday evening.
The Monitoring and Documentation Department of North Press documented the death of nine people, including three children and a woman, in addition to the injury of 23 people, including six children.
Four deaths and 13 injuries were recorded in Hama Governorate in central Syria, four deaths and six injuries were recorded in Idlib in northwestern country, one death and one injury in Homs in the central, and three injuries in Aleppo.
On Wednesday, strong winds blew in Syria and caused material damages including the fall of advertising boards, solar panels, parts of buildings, windows, and parts of some walls.
The windstorm led to the collapse of three power towers on the line feeding the Salhab substation in Hama, which caused power outages in several villages, in addition to the fall of other poles in Suqaylabiyah and Salamiyah.
Additionally, all the country’s sea ports were shut down due to poor weather and high winds, state media reported on Wednesday.
