Switzerland sends experts to quake-affected Syria, Turkey

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Switzerland announced on Friday sending experts and equipment to Syria and Turkey to help the two countries recover from the devastating earthquake that hit them on Feb. 6.  

The Swiss Humanitarian Aid unit sent two engineers and two disaster aid personnel to Syria, SWI reported, a multilingual news and information platform produced by the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation.   

On Feb. 6, a devastating earthquake hit southern Turkey and northwestern Syria, killing about 50.000 and injuring many more, in addition to devastating thousands of buildings under which thousands were trapped. 

Switzerland has already contributed $8.6 million in humanitarian aid to both countries, according to the platform.

Switzerland also intends to equip Syria with 300 tents that can withstand winter conditions.

In addition, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation has sent several tons of winter equipment, including tents, sleeping bags, lamps, heaters and winter clothing to both countries.
