US top official visiting Middle East
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – US National Security Council Coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa, Brett McGurk, is in a tour to the region for meetings with officials of Egypt, Jordan, Oman and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the White House said on Thursday.
McGurk’s visit comes as part of a multiple-agency trip to the region as Washington has expressed concern over a surge in violence in Israel and the West Bank, which the Palestinians want as the core of a future state.
In a press briefing on Friday, White House Press Secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, said that Mcgurk is with an interagency delegation for a series of diplomatic engagements, adding, “His trip will include stops in Egypt, Jordan, Oman, UAE.”
