Removing Earthquake-Damaged Facades of Buildings in Syria’s Manbij
Manbij, Syria ( North Press) – An official in Manbij Municipality in northern Syria said on Tuesday that they removed the facades of 93 at-risk buildings following the devastating earthquake that hit various areas in Syria and Turkey.
The earthquake caused damage, cracks, and partial collapse of buildings.
At dawn on Feb. 6, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit Syria and Turkey, killing thousands and injuring much more. The earthquake also caused immense destruction of buildings, trapping thousands under the rubble.
Aziz Hesso, an official in the Municipality of Manbij, affiliated with the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) said they removed the facades of 93 buildings after forming damage assessment committees.
Earlier, an engineer in Manbij said they formed committees consisting of engineers of various specialties to assess and evaluate damaged buildings, raise awareness among the people, and alert them to evacuate old at-risk buildings, assess the integrity of the structure and provide construction solutions.
Four residential buildings have been completely collapsed following the earthquake noting the continuation of the assessment of the damaged buildings, Hesso added.
The Municipality has removed the bricks of the damaged facades and balconies after inspection by engineers in order not to fall on passers-by.
