3.583 Dead, 6.342 Injured by Syria Earthquake in Latest Death Toll
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The death toll for the earthquake that struck Syria on February 6 has risen to more than 3.583 people and more than 6.342 injured ones in a provisional count.
On Thursday, the Civil Defense, affiliated with the Syrian opposition, in Idlib announced the rise of the death toll to more than 1.900 deaths and 2.950 injuries in northwest Syria.
It noted that the figures are expected to rise even more as hundreds of families are still trapped under the rubble.
In northwest Syria, the number of completely collapsed buildings has reached 418, and those that were partially collapsed reached 1.300 buildings, not to mention thousands of damaged and cracked buildings following the destructive earthquake, according to the Civil Defense.
The Syrian Ministry of Health announced that the number of fatalities has reached to 1.677 deaths and 3.335 injuries in government-held areas, which witnessed, on Wednesday evening, even more low magnitude aftershocks.
In the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) areas the death toll has remained static even though the region felt mild aftershocks following the initial devastating earthquake. The Health Board affiliated with the AANES has, so far, counted six dead people and 57 injured ones.
On Wednesday evening, a residential building collapsed in the city of Harasta in Rif Dimashq Governorate. The rescue teams pulled out one survivor and a dead body from under the rubble, whereas there are others still trapped.
