18 Bodies of Turkey Earthquake Victims Reach Syria’s AANES-Held Areas
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) announced the arrival of 18 bodies of Syrian victims who died in the massive earthquake that hit Turkey on Feb. 6.
The 7.7 magnitude earthquake hit southern Turkey and across Syria and left behind thousands of dead and injured, whereas hundreds of thousands are still trapped under the rubble.
According to the AANES website, 18 bodies entered from the Awn al-Dadat crossing between the AANES areas and the territory under the opposition control and arrived in Raqqa and Kobani.
On Tuesday, seven bodies of earthquake victims in Turkey arrived at their hometown Kobani in northern Syria. Muhammad Hami, one of the victims’ relatives, said that seven people, of which six are from one family, arrived at Khazina village in the south of Kobani on Tuesday evening.
Activists and people of Kobani circulated on social media that there are more victims from Kobani who died in the devastating earthquake that hit Turkey.
There are around three million Syrian refugees in Turkey since the Syrian war broke out in 2011.
