Earthquake Caused Minor Damages – Raqqa Response Team
RAQQA, Syria (North Press ) – On Monday, Mahmoud Abdo, head of Raqqa’s Rapid Response Team, affiliated with the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), said damages to the city caused by today’s earthquake are minor and were only material.
Abdo told North Press, “Part of a building under construction on al-Qitar Street collapsed, as well as the balcony of a building close to al-Itfaya square; in addition, a wall in the barracks next to Bara’em al-Mahaba kindergarten also collapsed.”
Abdo noted that aftershocks pose a threat to Raqqa, since most buildings are already damaged from years of war.
Abdo emphasized the importance for all locals go out on the streets in case they feel an earthquake, and to contact the Rapid Response Team in case of an emergency.
At dawn today, large areas of Syria were hit by a disastrous earthquake which destroyed scores of buildings, claimed hundreds of lives, and caused hundreds more injuries.
