Government officer, soldier killed in Syria’s Qunaitra
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Using an IED, unknown people targeted on Monday a military vehicle of the Syrian government forces, killing a non-commissioned officer and one of his guards in the countryside of Qunaitra Governorate, southern Syria.
A local source told North Press, “Non-commissioned officer Abdul-Ghani al-Rashid and his guard Ali Muhammad, who is a soldier, were killed after unknown people planted them an IED on the road connecting the villages of Bariqa and Rwihinah in the southern countryside of Qunaitra.”
Al-Rashid and his escort are affiliated with the Military Security Detachment of the government’s Military Security Branch in the town of Sasa in Rif Dimashq, he added.
He said that the soldiers at the nearby posts spread immediately at the site. The government troops took both bodies to the hospital of Mamdouh Abada, and started combing the area aiming to find the perpetrators.
Al-Rashid hails from the village of Jabah in the countryside of Qunaitra and had worked with the government for many years, he noted.
Earlier today, a soldier of the Military Security Branch was killed in an armed attack by unknown gunmen in the downtown Daraa city.
