Residential building collapses in Aleppo, dozens under rubble

ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – A five-story residential building collapsed in Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood in the city of Aleppo, northern Syria, on Saturday night. Seven people died as an initial toll.

A local source told North Press that a five-story residential building collapsed in Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood, at 02:30 a.m.

The Kurdish-majority Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood, northern Aleppo, is semi-autonomous and run by a civil administration.

It is housing IDPs of Afrin who fled the human right violations of the Turkish forces and the Turkish-backed armed opposition factions since their occupation of Afrin in 2018.

According to reports, five families are stuck under the rubble, without knowing their numbers.

After the incident, emergency and rescue teams rushed to remove the rubble and rescue those stuck.

The teams were able to remove an elderly man who had been sent to the neighborhood’s hospital, as well as the body of a young man was found under the rubble.

An eyewitness told North Press that seven people have been killed so far, as search for survivors is still going on.

The reason for the collapse is still unknown.
