Turkey reinforces frontlines with government in Aleppo

ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – The Turkish forces at Basouta village, south of Afrin in Aleppo northern countryside, brought in military reinforcements towards the contact lines that separate them from Syrian government forces and pro-Iran militias in the region.

Military sources told North Press that the Turkish forces boost its presence at the contact lines with heavy armored vehicles in the vicinity of Jabal al-Ahlam in Afrin region.

The source added that the area witnessed an alert status of the Turkish-backed factions, also known as Syrian national Army (SNA), in south of Afrin.

Additional Turkish military build-up were seen heading to the Jabal al-Ahlam area, according to the source.

Military convoys of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front) headed towards Sheikh al-Hadid area in Afrin, which is held by the SNA’s Sultan Suleiman Shah faction.

In a relevant issue, the Syrian government forces and pro-Iranian militias were on the preparedness on the frontlines with Turkish forces and the affiliated factions of the opposition, notably in southeast Afrin, according to the source. 

This comes at a time when Turkish officials have again raised the portability of a ground invasion into north Syria that could be mounted “at any time.”
