Tunisian Former PM imprisoned For Sending Jihadists To Syria
ERBIL, KRI, Iraq (North Press) – Tunisia’s anti-terrorism judge issued a decision to imprison the former prime minister and a senior official in the Islamist opposition Ennahda party, Ali Laarayedh, on the background of sending youths to hotbeds of tension and terror.
The decision was issued due to sending jihadists to hotbeds of tension states, including Syria, the decision also affected leaders of the Islamic Ennahda party, including the party’s leader, Rached Ghannouchi.
Syria, as a hotbed of tension in the Middle East and where extremist Islamic organizations emerged during the years of crisis since 2011, attracted Tunisian jihadists and others from around the world.
Ennahda denied in a statement this accusation, calling it a political attack to “hide the catastrophic failure of the parliamentary elections.”
In September, Laarayedh was referred to the investigation then his interrogation was postponed until December 19, then decided to imprison him, according to the latest communication, while the investigation continued.
Lawyer Inas al-Harrath, who is familiar with the case, said on Monday morning Laarayedh came by himself to the court for investigation, indicating that the period of imprisonment may last for months, until the end of the investigation.
Al-Harrath indicated in a press statement that the interrogation with Laarayedh was related to the period in which he assumed the Ministry of Interior and the presidency of the government, and his responsibility during that period.
