Iran arrests famous actress for supporting protests
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Iranian authorities arrested on Saturday the most famous actress in Iran because she criticized the execution of a man who was involved in the nationwide protests that have swept the country since September.
Taraneh Alidoosti, who starred in the 2016 Oscar-winning film, “The Salesman,” was detained a week after she made a post on Instagram expressing solidarity with the first man recently executed for crimes allegedly committed during the protests.
In November, Alidoosti published a picture of herself on Instagram without the Islamic hijab and holding a sign reading “Women, Life, Freedom” to show support for the protest movement.
Last week, the Iranian authorities executed another prisoner, Majidreza Rahnavard, on charges of killing two members of the security forces and the injury of four others.
Since mid-September, Iran has been rocked by protests over the death of the 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who died after being detained by the Morality Police.
