Global Coalition discusses supporting ISIS-liberated areas in NE Syria

QAMIHSLI, Syria (North Press) – US Department of Defense (DoD) said on Friday that US-led Global Coalition to defeat Islamic State Organization (ISIS) discussed mechanisms of supporting campaign to defeat ISIS in northeast Syria.

This came in a Political-Military Consultation (PMC) meeting of officials of the Global Coalition that was held on Dec. 14 in Finland.

The US DoD said, in a press release, the participants stressed “the imperative of the enduring commitment” to defeat ISIS.

They also discussed the need to increase humanitarian aid for areas freed from ISIS in northeast Syria and Iraq in the near future.

In addition, the PMC participants stressed that foreign ISIS family members must be repatriated to their homelands.

On Nov. 6, Ethan Goldrich, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, said they were preparing long-term plans to fight terrorism and allocate a budget to support stability in northeastern Syria.

On Dec. 9, the US House of Representatives approved $165.3 million of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for the fiscal year of 2023 to support Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the fight against ISIS.
