Jordan seizes Large quantities of narcotics on border with Syria
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Jordanian armed forces foiled on early Sunday an infiltration attempt to smuggle large quantities of narcotics from Syrian territory.
“Border Guard forces, in coordination with the military agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department (AND), detected an attempt by a group of smugglers to cross Jordan’s border illegally from Syrian territory,” the state-run Jordon News Agency cited a military source as saying.
As a result, the source said, rapid response units were deployed and started “directly shooting at smugglers, which led to injuring a number of them, while others retreated into Syrian territories.”
After thoroughly searching the area, “8.773 palm-sized of hashish and 3,141,000 Captagon pills were found, in addition to 376 gun cartridges and 18.000 Syrian liras [Syrian pounds, SYP], which were transferred to the competent authorities,” the source added.
On December 3, the Jordanian army thwarted the smuggling of 182 palm-sized hashish and 194.000 Captagon pills coming from Syrian territory.
The Kingdom of Jordan says that 85% of the drugs seized are intended for smuggling outside Jordan, especially to Saudi Arabia and the other Gulf states.
