SDF commander says he survived assassination attempts by Turkey
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Commander in Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Mazloum Abdi, said Wednesday that over the past years he survived several assassination attempts plotted by Turkey.
Abdi told North Press, “Turkey targets SDF leaders and officials of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria [AANES], which led to the martyrdom of many of our comrades.”
He said that in the recent Turkish drone strike, which targeted a joint base that the SDF shares with the US-led Global Coalition, “resulted in the injury and martyrdom of a number of our comrades.”
The assassination attempts are nothing new, as it has been taking place for the last 10 years, even before the Coalition’s entry into the region, he added.
Abdi did not elaborate on these attempts, but said, “We have managed to protect ourselves [from the Turkish attacks] over the past years, and we will continue to do so.”
We want to inform everybody, the commander said, that Turkey’s ongoing attacks against SDF leaders and AANES officials in the region “will not break their will.”
He hailed the popular support for their forces, adding that it boosts their strength and resolve.
Abdi believed that Turkey’s tactics of targeting individuals using drones, will not achieve any results, but rather would reflect negatively on it.
