Turkish airstrikes target infrastructure in northeastern Syria

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Since the start of its military escalation on areas of north and northeast Syria, Turkey has targeted infrastructure, including vital facilities such as hospitals, oil fields and fuel centers, not to mention the casualties and the damage that has inflicted residents’ property.

On Wednesday, villages in the eastern countryside of Kobani, northern Syria, were subjected to intense artillery shelling of Turkish forces which destroyed a school and caused a wave of displacement.

“The school of Koran and houses of the civilians have been completely destroyed as a result of the Turkish shelling,” according to a villager from Koran.

The villager told North Press that the people were displaced to the southern villages, and that “some of them are in the open.”

On the same day, Agid Abdulmajid, director of the Gas Investment Company in Hasakah Governorate fields, said that the Turkish forces targeted the gas plant in the Suwaydiyah area, in Derik (al-Malikiyah) countryside, with three shells, leading to significant damage to the facility and halting production until further notice.

A fourth shell exploded in the Suwaydiyah second field, causing significant damage to tanks and setting fire to the facility, pushing firefighters to intervene to put it out.

A Turkish drone targeted with three strikes the outskirts of a station near the village of al-Oda, Tel Khatoun station near the town of Terbe Spi (al-Qahtaniyah), and the Dijla oil field, south of Chel Agha (al-Jawadiyah) in the east of Qamishli.

On Wednesday, the President of the Executive Committee of Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), Ilham Ahmad, said Turkey targets infrastructures that secure livings for five million Syrians, who reject immigration and displacement despite hard living conditions.

On November 22, successive Turkish airstrikes and artillery attacks targeted villages and fields of oil and gas east of the city of Qamishli, northeast Syria, recording casualties.

The Turkish forces also targeted the vicinity of Jerkin prison west of Qamishli where dozens of Islamic State Organization (ISIS) militants are held.

The Turkish forces also targeted the village of Tel Ziwan and Sikrka in Qamishli countryside with shells fired from a police station on the Turkish border.

After then, a Turkish drone targeted Tel Khatoun station, near the town of Terbe Spi.

On November 20, the cities of Kobani, Derik, and the northern countryside of Aleppo, in addition to other areas on Syrian-Turkish border were targeted by Turkish warplanes, killing 13 people, including civilians and fighters of the SDF, according to a statement released by the SDF.

The Turkish bombardment expanded to include Daqel Baqel power station in the countryside of Derik, leading to a power outage in the area.

The General Manager of the Directorate of Electricity in Qamishl, Akram Suleiman, told North Press that the targeted plant in the village of Daqel Baqel was completely destroyed.

In addition, sources told North Press that the Turkish warplanes targeted with three airstrikes the Meshtanour hill, southeast of the city, a position near the broadcasting service, west of Kobani, and Kobani forest.

A source of Health Board said that Hospital of Children in Meshtanour Hill was completely destroyed.

Turkish airstrikes destroyed grain silos in the town of Dahr al-Arab, in the countryside of Derbasiyah, northwestern Hasakah.

Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said, in a statement, that the Turkish forces carried out six airstrikes with warplanes and drones, in addition to carrying out 82 shelling operations with heavy weapons, targeting 45 posts, including hospitals, oil fields and schools.

The Turkish bombing on northern Syria is continuous, amid international silence and lack of firm stances by active powers that only release conflicting statements without lifting a finger.
