Arab League condemns Iranian attacks on KRI
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Arab League denounced on Tuesday the Iranian attacks across the border on Kurdish Iranian opposition headquarters in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI)
The League voiced its support for the government of Iraq in all the measures the latter vowed to take.
The official spokesman for the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Jamal Rushdy said in a statement that the Arab League condemns the repeated Iranian shelling on multiple areas in KRI which resulted in a number of “martyrs” and wounded people.
Rushdy added by saying that the Arab League supports the measures to be taken by the Iraqi government for the sake of safeguarding Iraq’s sovereignty and countering all regional violations that target its safety and stability.
He also mentioned that Iranian’s behavior does not just seriously infringe on Iraq’s sovereignty and violating its territorial integrity, but it also destabilizes the safety and security of the whole region.
The statement also stated that Tehran’s aim to blame others for its internal crises is a unacceptable.
Hours after the attack, UN in Iraq condemned the Iranian attacks, saying that they violate Iraqi sovereignty.
“Iraq should not be used as an arena to settle scores and its territorial integrity must be respected,” the UN tweeted. “Dialogue between Iraq and Iran over mutual security concerns is the only way forward,” the UN added.
On November 14, Iran launched on Monday missile and drone attacks targeting a headquarter of the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran (KDPI) in the vicinity of the town of Koya in Erbil Governorate.
