UAE funds building hospital in Syria’s Homs

HOMS, Syria (North Press) – Syrian Ministry of Health opened on Sunday field “Sheikh Muhammad Bin Zayed Hospital” in the Muhajirin neighborhood of the city of Homs in central Syria funded by the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The meeting between Syrian President Bashar Assad and Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the UAE, was a first precursor of normalization between the two countries.

Syrian Health Minister Hassan al-Ghabbash said the hospital was opened and funded by Emirates Red Crescent Authority in response to Covid-19 pandemic and the effects it caused.

Al-Ghabbash told reporters the hospital has  several sections including intensive care, a lab and X–ray.

“The hospital has 100 beds 20 of which placed in the intensive care unit,” al-Ghabbash said.

The visit paid by the Syrian President to the UAE in March, being Assad’s first to an Arab country since 2011, was a clear indication that several Arab countries willing to normalize ties with Syria.
