Security tension displaces dozens of families in Syria’s Daraa
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Al-Sadd neighborhood in the city of Daraa, south Syira, witnessed on Sunday the displacement of dozens of families due to the security tension in the area.
A local source told North Press, “Residents of al-Sadd neighborhood were displaced towards the other neighborhoods in Daraa city.”
“The displacement came after residents feared the security tension in the area, as armed groups of local gunmen are preparing to launch a campaign to pursue militants of the Islamic State Organization [ISIS] who are holed up in al-Sadd neighborhood,” the source added.
He also noted, “The campaign came after a suicide bombing attack against the former leader of the Syrian opposition, Ghasan Akram al-Abazid, which killed four people and wounded five others.”
The source stressed that “The local armed groups pointed the finger directly at the ISIS militants holed up in the neighborhood of al-Sadd.”
On October 29, local gunmen imposed a curfew in the neighborhoods of al-Sadd and al-Mukhayyam in the city of Daraa, until further notice.
Since the government forces re-captured Daraa in 2018, the governorate has been living in a state of insecurity, with daily assassinations targeting civilians, and members of the government forces, not to mention the spread of thefts.
