US diplomat meets opposing Kurdish parties in Syria’s Qamishli

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Nikolas Granger, US Senior Representative to Northeast Syria, met on Monday with the two opposing sides of intra-Kurdish dialogue in the city of Qamishli, northeastern Syria.

Resuming the intra-Kurdish dialogue was one of the main issues discussed in the meeting which gathered the US representative with the Kurdish National Unity Parties (PYNK) and the Kurdish National Council (ENKS) in Qamishli city.

The PYNK operates within the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) while the ENKS is affiliated with the Turkish-based opposition Syrian National Coalition (SNC).

Granger said that the United States and the US-led Global Coalition will provide more support in development and stability fields.

He renewed US commitments to keep supporting the AANES in “fighting terrorism.”

On their part, the representatives of the PYNK called on the US government to take a “more serious and effective” stance regarding the repeated Turkish bombardment against the region, stressing the need to resolve the Syrian crisis.

On April 16, a US delegation, headed by the US State Department representative in northeast Syria Matthew Pearl, visited the region with the aim of resuming intra-Kurdish dialogue between the two Kurdish sides, different sources told North Press back then.

The intra-Kurdish dialogue started with an initiative launched by the Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Mazloum Abdi to unify the Kurdish ranks under US auspices following the Turkish military operation on northern Syria in October 2019.
