US representative in NE Syria pushes towards intra-Kurdish dialogue
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, cross-checking sources said the US delegation in Syria sought to resume intra-Kurdish dialogue sessions.
Dialogue among Syria’s Kurdish National Unity Parties (PYNK) and the Kurdish National Council in Syria (ENKS) started two years ago with the objective to unify the Syrian Kurdish stances, yet multiple obstacles still hinder concluding a final deal.
A well-informed US source told North Press that Matthew Pearl, US State Department representative in NE Syria, was attempting to bring together the negotiators and accelerate the wheel of negotiations to reach a fundamental agreement.
The PYNK and the ENKS follow different parties. The PYNK operates within the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) while the ENKS is affiliated with the Turkish-based opposition Syrian National Coalition (SNC).
The US delegate held few meetings over the last period, the source said. Details or outcomes of the meetings were not unfolded.
Pearl is attempting to conclude the intra-Kurdish negotiations with a final agreement and end the task of his predecessor William Roebuck.
The intra-Kurdish dialogue started with an initiative launched by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Commander-in-Chief Mazloum Abdi to unify the Kurdish position under American sponsorship following the Turkish military operation on northeastern Syria in October 2019.
