Turkish shelling of Syria’s Kobani displaces civilians

KOBANI, Syria (North Press) – Turkish shelling, targeted on Monday the countryside of Kobani in northern Syria, resulted in the damage of residents’ houses and the displacement of people.

On Monday evening, Turkish artillery renewed the shelling of the villages of Qaramogh, Kolteb and Jishan in Kobani eastern countryside. They also targeted the villages of Mazraa Abrosh and Tel Shaer, west of Kobani.

The residents of Kolteb village, 30 km east of Kobani, located near the contact lines between Syrian government forces and Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, known as Syrian national Army (SNA), displaced.

The residents displaced due to heavy Turkish shelling of the village. The residents were forced to sleep outdoor all night.

One of residents said in a phone call to North Press, they were afraid to return to their homes due to renewed shelling.

The shelling caused destruction of some village’s houses and destroyed one car.

In addition, two persons were wounded due to the shelling on the villages.

Another Turkish shelling hit villages in the countryside of the town of Ain Issa and the city of Tel Abyad with heavy and medium weapons in tandem with the shelling of Kobani countryside.

Following the Turkish incursion into northeastern Syria in October 2019, Turkey signed two ceasefire agreements, one with Russia and the other with the US stipulating ceasing all hostilities and the withdrawal of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) 32 km away from the Turkish border.
