SDF arrests 6 ISIS members in Syria’s Raqqa

RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – Counter-Terrorism Units of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Wednesday arresting six members of the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) in al-Karama neighborhood in Raqqa city, northern Syria.

The SDF Media Center said the units captured the six members in two separate operations.

In the first, the units arrested an ISIS leader who was active in making and distributing IEDs to the group’s cells in the area.

The SDF stated that the leader opened fire on the raiding forces, and then turned himself in after calls to surrender.

In the second operation, the units arrested a cell of five ISIS members, after raiding a house that the cell was using to prepare IEDs, according to the SDF Media Center.

The SDF said that during the two operations, the Counter-Terrorism Units seized Kalashnikovs, pistols, IEDs, materials used in making explosives and communications devices.

On August 25, the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) announced launching the second phase of Operation “Humanity and Security” in Hawl Camp to pursue the ISIS sleeper cells. The operation was conducted in cooperation with the SDF and the US-led Coalition to Defeat ISIS.

On September 17, the Asayish announced the end of its anti-ISIS campaign, in which it arrested 226 suspected ISIS members and seized many weapons.
