Syrian parties, political powers meet in Consultative Forum in Syria’s Qamishli
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Janda Muhammad, member of Preparatory Committee of Democratic Powers and Figures Conference told North Press, on Thursday, that holding a consultative forum for the political parties and forces in Syria is “a necessity to create an impact on the upcoming political process.”
This comes on the eve of a consultative forum, which will be held in the city of Qamishli northeast Syria, on Friday, and will last for two consecutive days.
The meeting will be attended by powers and figures from the Syrian coast, Homs, Damascus, opposition figures, and other places in Syria.
Muhammed pointed out that the conference will discuss multiple different axes, the necessity of the political solution in Syria, the national inclusive identity, and the decentralized system.
They are working on initiating such forums for two years. Many consultative forums took place in the past, including previous meetings that took place in the Swedish capital Stockholm, the member of the Preparatory Committee added.
In December 2021, the preparatory committee of the Democratic Powers and Figures Conference in cooperation with the Olof Palme International Center for Peace and Democracy held the first consultative forum under the title “Stockholm Consultative Meeting for Democratic Powers and Figures: Necessity, Possibilities and Hope”, in the Swedish capital, Stockholm.
In April 2022, the second consultative forum was held in Stockholm, under the auspices of the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Olof Palme center.
The forum was attended by 39 Syrian political figures, as well as representatives of the United States, Britain, France and the Scandinavian countries.
The forum that will take place in Qamishli will end with a statement that gathers all the consensus that will result in two-day discussions. Based on the fact that there are consensus on some issues, such as the need for a national identity that is inclusive for all Syrians, according to Muhammad.
The member of the Preparatory Committee considered that there are attempts by the Syrians to re-unite and reach a political body which has a political weight and major role in the upcoming solution process.
“There is an international trend and remarkable support for consultative meetings in this regard.” She said.
On September 14 2022, a number of Syrian parties and figures met with Mikhail Bogdanov, Special Representative of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin for the Middle East and North Africa and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs in which they discussed reviving the political process in Syria.
The SDC is the political wing of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES). It was founded in 2015 and includes all the communities of north and east Syria.
