More than 1.917 Turkish shells hit northern Syria in August – SDF
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Media Center said on Sunday that Turkish forces targeted – with more than 1.917 shells – different areas of north and northeast Syria during the month of August.
More than 15 strikes were conducted by Turkish drones, the SDF said.
The media center said that the Turkish forces targeted Afrin southern countryside more than 24 times using heavy artillery, tanks, missiles, and mortars. About 766 artillery, tanks, and mortar shells landed on villages in Sherawa District, primarily Ibbin, Aqibah, Ziyarah, Tenneb and Mayassa.
The shelling resulted in injuring a displaced boy and a soldier of the Syrian government forces, in addition to causing significant material damage, according to the SDF.
As for Aleppo northern countryside, also known as Shahba region, the Turkish shelling was centered on the town of Tel Rifaat and the villages around it.
The region was subjected to 46 attacks, three of them were drone strikes, according to the data gathered by the SDF.
Around 623 missiles and artillery tank shells hit the region, killing six people including a girl and a woman. Furthermore, 16 people were wounded, six of whom were women, the SDF statement added.
The town of Ain Issa and its countryside, northern Syria, were subjected to 41 attacks, using artilleries, heavy machine guns, tanks and grenade launchers in addition to two drone strikes, said the media center.
“Around 412 shells landed in in these attacks and caused severe damage to civilian property and the water pumping stations of Al-Heisha and Al-Fatisa, and electricity blackout in the western villages of Tel Abyad,” the statement added.
Regarding the town of Tel Tamr and its countryside, northeastern Syria, it was targeted 25 times, three of which were drone strikes.
The attacks killed six people, including four school girls and two fighters of the Syriac Military Council, and wounded 5 others, one child and three members of the government forces, including one officer.
Speaking of northeast Syria, the Turkish forces attacked the city of Qamishli and its countryside 24 times, including three drone strikes, one hit the city itself while the others targeted a car in the countryside. The Turkish forces also attacked the towns of Derbasiyah and al-Qahtaniya for eight and four times respectively. Forty-three shells were landed in these assaults, according to the SDF.
The attacks killed 14 people, including nine SDF fighters and five civilians, two of whom were children. In addition, 19 people were wounded including one girl, two women, a shepherd, 8 children, and one soldier of the government forces.
The SDF stated that Turkish artillery struck the town of Amuda, northeastern Syria, for five times, three of which were drone attacks. As a result, five fighters of the SDF-affiliated Self-Defense Forces (compulsory service) lost their lives.
The city of Kobani, central northern Syria, was attacked four times, one of which was a drone strike. The bombardment killed six people, including a child and four soldiers of government forces. Five were injured, including a child, and three government soldiers.
The SDF Media Center said that the Turkish forces also targeted the western countryside of Tel Abyad six times with 18 shells, and Manbij twice with 55 shells.
