Turkey carries out indiscriminate arrests against Syrian Kurds – rights organization

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Violations Documentation Center in Northern Syria (VDC-NSY) said on Friday that Turkish forces carry arbitrary and indiscriminate arrests against Syrian refugees on its territory.

The VDC-NSY said that Turkish authorities arrested the two Kurdish singers Shero Hannan, 31, and Farhad Murad, 33. They are from Jindires district in the countryside of Afrin, north of Syria’s Aleppo, and live and work in Istanbul.

A Syrian woman, Rihan Abdi, who lives in Istanbul, was arrested on August 26 with her baby in bad conditions.

After three days of arresting her, a Turkish court sentenced her to prison without any documents to condemn her, according to the VDC-NSY.

In April, Turkish security services arbitrarily arrested more than six Syrian refugees in Istanbul and prevented their family’s form visiting them or knowing the reason behind arresting, according to the center.

The VDC-NSY cited the detainees’ families as saying that the arrests were arbitrary and indiscriminate, as they arrested them just because they were from the city of Afrin.

Muhammad Mannan Fayeq, from a village in Jindires, was arrested in Esenyurt district, in Istanbul, although he has been in Istanbul and has worked there since five years.

In addition, the Turkish security services in Istanbul arrested Adnan Bakr while he was trying to make a visit request to see his two detained sons, Amer Adnan Bakr and Muhammad Adnan Bakr.

The 30-year-old Monther Nouri Rasho Smito, who lives in the town of Kırıkhan, in the northeastern part of Hatay Province, was also arrested, the center added.

The VDC-NSY said, citing the family of Raghib Ahmad A’lo, who is from Afrin and has been arrested since 2021, that Turkish court sentenced him for three years in prison on charges of belonging to the People’s Protection Units (YPG).

In addition, the 69-year-old Mustafa Hussein Jassim, who is from a village in Afrin’s countryside, was arrested by Turkish authorities after raiding his house in the Turkish city of Kayseri.
