New government reinforcements arrive in north of Syria’s Daraa

Daraa, Syria (North Press) – Syrian government forces sent on Thursday new military reinforcements to the vicinity of the city of Jasim in the northern countryside of Daraa Governorate, south of Syria.

A local source told North Press that the government forces sent new military reinforcements, including more than 300 soldiers, BMP-3 vehicles, AZP S-60 anti-aircraft guns, a tank and a BMB vehicle to the vicinity of Jasim.

The reinforcements were concentrated in several farmers on a route connecting the city with the town of Namar, in addition to establishing three temporary military points on the route allegedly for more protection, the source added.

A day ago, dozens of government forces soldiers were deployed in agricultural lands surrounding the area and new posts were established nearby the city, according to a local source.

The government forces prevented farmers, who were there, from leaving their agricultural projects, in coincidence with flight of Phantom reconnaissance aircraft over the region, the source added.

The government forces also seized a farm and established a new military post there, as well as, they prevented some residents from getting to their farms, according to the source.

Residents fear that these moves precede a siege on the city, with the aim of launching a military operation similar to that witnessed by the city of Tafas, in the western countryside of Daraa weeks ago.

Since the government forces re-captured Daraa in line with 2018 agreement, the governorate has been living in a state of security chaos, with one or two daily assassinations targeting soldiers and officers of the government forces, civilians and former opposition members, not to mention the spread of thefts.

In 2021, Daraa Governorate went through an 80-day-seige. After that, a number of Daraa’s notables and government forces, with mediation of Russian officers, reached a ceasefire agreement on September 5, 2021, including handing over weapons and deploying governmental security posts in the towns of the governorate.
