QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Times of Israel said on Friday in a report that satellite images revealed that Russia has transferred S-300 air defense system from Syria to send them back to Russia.
ImageSat International (ISI) published images showing that the S-300 system stationed near the city of Masyaf, in the western countryside of Hama, central Syria, had been taken apart recently.
“The system’s radar was taken to Russia’s Khmeimim Air Base in western Syria, and the S-300 battery was taken to the port of Tartus where it was loaded onto a Russian ship bound for the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk,” according to The Times of Israel.
On August 25, several sites in the western countryside of Hama, were subjected to what appeared to be Israeli airstrikes against military posts, likely affiliated with the Iranian-backed militias.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that Israeli airstrikes targeted the Wadi al-Uyun road, west of Masyaf, the area of the Scientific Research Center, and A’swaidah area, southeast of Masyaf.
“In May, Russian forces opened fire on Israeli jets using the advanced system at the end of an Israeli Air Force attack on targets in the Masyaf area,” according to the report.
It is suggested that the battery was transferred back to Russia in order to strengthen its air defenses, which have been damaged fight in Ukraine.
Russia began its war against Ukraine on February 24.
