Casualties in attack on Iranian-backed militias in Syrian Desert

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Two members of Iranian-backed Quds Force were killed and three others were injured in an armed attack against their military patrol in the town of al-Sukhna, east of Homs in central Syria.

“Unknown militants in SUV cars targeted a military patrol of the Force on the road close to al-Sukhna,” a military source from the Quds Force said.

The source, who preferred not to be named, added that the attack resulted in the deaths of two members of the Quds Force and the injury of three others who were transferred to the Military Hospital in al-Wa’er in Homs. Their injuries were critical according to a doctor in the hospital.

The source indicated that the attack destroyed two cars of the patrol while the attackers fled away deep into the Desert.

Iranian-backed militias and Syrian government forces control large areas in the Syrian Desert and the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor which often witnesses violent clashes with ISIS.

On August 22 two members of the Quds Force were killed by unknown militants in the town of al-Misrib in the west of Deir ez-Zor.
