Second operation to pursue ISIS sets off in Iraq
ERBIL, KRI, Iraq (North Press) – On Thursday, Iraqi forces commenced a security operation east of Tuz Khurmatu district east of Saladin Governorate 24 hours after a similar operation launched northwest of the governorate to pursue militants of the Islamic State Organization (ISIS).
Popular Mobilization Forces, in a statement, said, “Security forces and Special Troops Regiment affiliated with the Popular Mobilization launched a broad inspection east of Tuz Khurmatu.”
The operation inspected the following areas: Qoblak, Qoshlan and Shorawo in Balkan mountains range to pursue ISIS militants and destroy their hideouts, according to the statement.
These areas are situated within the disputed geography between Erbil and Baghdad.
On Wednesday, the Iraqi forces launched another operation to secure Baaja and Hawi, areas adjacent to the Tigris east of the city of Baiji in Saladin Governorate.
Unites of the Iraqi Army, Saladin Police, 51 base and a regiment of the Popular Mobilization participated in the operation.
A security statement pointed out that the operation is launched to cleanse and secure rugged areas to prevent infiltration of ISIS militants.
