Differing views between Iraqi parties engulfs country in uncertainty
ERBIL, KRI, Iraq (North Press) – Iraq undergoes a state of defiance between two Shiite groups; the Sadrist Movement and the Coordination Framework as both parties maintain their positions regarding the form of the coming government.
On Wednesday, Muqtada al-Sadr, head of the Sadrist Movement, called for the dissolution of the parliament while the Coordination Framework called for organizing a demonstration to retain “legitimacy”.
Amid this, Minister of the Sadrist Movement, Saleh al-Iraqi, called on his supporters to petition for suiting President of the Republic Barham Saleh, Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi and Speaker of the Parliament, Mohamed al-Halbousi.
This follows a call made by al-Sadr to the Iraqi judicial authorities to dissolve the parliament within a leeway given up to next weekend.
While President Saleh urged to set a date to hold snap elections in the country, the Coordination Framework endeavors to hold a session in the parliament and choose presidencies.
However, this is utterly rejected by al-Sadr who emphasizes a regime change after his supporters stormed the parliament and organized a sit-in nearly two weeks ago.
The other Shiite Coordination Framework called on its supporters to organize demonstrations on Friday in the periphery of the Green Zone home to the parliament, diplomatic missions and other state’s institutions.
According to a statement, the goal of such a demonstration is “supporting constitutional and legal steps to defend judicial and legal institutions of the state and precipitate forming a full powered national government.”
The call made is a clear indication that the Coordination Framework maintains its opposite position to al-Sadr.
At the beginning of August, Baghdad witnessed a demonstration by supporters of the Coordination Framework in response to an open sit-in organized by supporters of al-Sadr in the parliament and the call made to change the regime.
Hours after al-Sadr called for dissolution of the parliament, the Coordination Framework held yesterday a new meeting where it renewed it determination to form a government.
