People of Syria’s Kobani protest against Turkey in front of Russia base

KOBANI, Syria (North Press) – People of Kobani and its countryside in northern Syria, protested on Tuesday against Turkey’s violations and acts of violence in the area in front of the Russian military base near the town of Sirrin, 3 km east of the Euphrates River.

Recently, Turkey has intensified its violations, especially drone attacks, against the cities of north and northeastern Syria targeting civilians, employees of the institutions of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), and fighters of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) who have, and still, fought ISIS along with the US-led Global Coalition.

Mustafa Ito, co-chair of Kobani District Council, told North Press that the protestors submitted a letter of protest on behalf of all area’s inhabitants to the Russian Force Command in Kobani, regarding the people’s attitude on Turkey’s violations and acts of violent.

“The Russian officers promised the protestors of discussing their requests with the Russian officials in Khmeimim Air Base,” Ito added

He added that the protestors demanded the Russians to clarify their position as, a guarantor state, on the violations, and re-assure that these Turkish acts were not the outcomes of the recent Tehran summit.

Ito mentioned that the Turkish attacks on the region has been increased after Tehran summit, the thing that proves Russian green light to Turkey to invade northern Syria, but Russian officers denied.

Newroz Ahmad, a resident from Kobani, said that she protested to express her refusal because Russia does not assume its responsibility as a guarantor state in keeping the stability and safety of the region.

“Turkey is going non-stop in its acts of violence and violations throughout shelling and drone attacks once in a while, causing horror to the inhabitants,” she added.

“The region did not witness any attacks from our side against Turkey which is demanding to establish a safe zone, on the contrary, it is Turkey which launches drone attacks against us,” Newroz mentioned.

Mahmoud Ismael, from Kobani countryside, demanded a no-fly zone in the region to stop the Turkish drone attacks.

“Russia and the US-led Coalition should put an end to the Turkish acts,” he said, adding that “due to the private interests of some states, they neglect these acts.”
