Leaders of Russia, Turkey, Iran lay out key topics before summit

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Before Tehran summit on Syria, each leader of the three participating countries – Iran, Russia and Turkey – revealed on Tuesday evening the critical topics that concern his country regarding Syria.

During a televised meeting between the three leaders in the Iranian capital Tehran, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi stressed on “the territorial integrity of Syria.”

Raisi emphasized that “a political solution is the only way to resolve the Syrian crisis.”

The Iranian president noted that “the strong presence of the Syrian [government] forces on the borders is a guarantor of the country’s stability.”

“We can allay the Turkish concerns by exchanging views,” he added.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that “the summit in Tehran is an opportunity to make an effective dialogue regarding the stability in Syria.”

“Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and border safety must be respected,” Putin added.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan raised the issue of Turkish national security, saying, “The terrorist organizations must be confronted and ousted from Syria.”

Erdogan expressed his hope “to receive Iranian and Russian support in this regard.”

He noted that his country feels Russia’s security concerns, and asked the other parties to feel theirs.

The latest summit on Syria in Tehran takes place in tandem with Turkish threats to launch a new military operation on northern Syria, targeting the Syrian cities of Manbij and Tel Rifaat.
