Russia, Turkey run 107th joint patrol in Syria’s Kobani

KOBANI, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, Russian Military Police (MP) and Turkish forces conducted a joint military patrol in the eastern countryside of Kobani, a city north Syria.

This is the 107th patrol between the two forces in the region since the signing of the Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement.

In October 2019, following a Turkish military operation in areas of northeast Syria which resulted in the occupation of Tel Abyad, north of Raqqa, and Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) north of Hasakah, the Turkish president signed two ceasefire agreements, one with Russia and the other with the US.

The ceasefire agreements stipulating halt of all hostilities there and the withdrawal of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) 30 kilometers in depth away from the Turkish border in addition to conducting joint patrols with Russia in order to monitor the implementation of the agreements.

On July 21, Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Media Center revealed that two SDF fighters were killed after they were targeted by a Turkish drone in Kobani.

The patrol, which consisted of eight Russian and Turkish military vehicles accompanied by two Russian helicopters, set off from the village of Gharib, 15 kilometers east of Kobani.

It roamed the villages of Karbanaf, Kosk, Alishar, Jom Ali, Kortek, Kobek, Satan, Tiri, Tel Hajib, Qabajeq Saghir, Telk, Holaqiya, Kharabisan Tahtani, Jishan and Qaramogh.

The patrol returned to the set off point in the village of Gharib.

The Turkish military vehicles returned to Turkey through the gate near Gharib village, while the Russian military vehicles returned to their position near the town of Sirrin, south of Kobani.

On July 18, the 106th Russian-Turkish patrol in the region was conducted in the western countryside of Kobani.

After Tehran summit, in which Turkey failed to obtain an Iranian-Russian green light to invade Syria’s north, it increased its attacks via drones in northeastern Syria, targeting military and civilian cars and bombing inhabited posts and lands.

On July 23, three fighters of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) were targeted by a Turkish drone attack in the city of Qamishli, northeast Syria

Tehran Summit, which was held on July 19, brought presidents of Iran Russia and Turkey together in the Iranian capital with the Syrian issue on the top of its agenda.
