Mazloum Abdi offers condolences to victims’ families of Turkish attack on KRI

ERBIL, KRI, Iraq (North Press) – On Thursday, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Commander in Chief, Mazloum Abdi, expressed his solidarity with the families of the victims of Turkish shelling that targeted on Wednesday a tourist resort in Duhok Governorate in Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI).

Due to the Turkish shelling, nine civilians were killed and more than 20 others were injured yesterday, most of them were tourists from southern Iraq.

“We, with great sadness, received the news of the Turkish shelling on a tourist resort in the city of Zakho which claims the lives of civilians,” Abdi said in a tweet in Arabic.

Abdi offered his sincere condolences to Iraqi people and expressed his solidarity with the bereaved families.

The shelling was widely condemned locally and internationally including Britain, the US and regional countries in addition to the issuance a package of resolutions that were made by Iraqi National Security Council, most notably, filing a complaint with the UN Security Council and calling for getting the Turkish forces out of Iraq.

Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) condemned, in a statement, the awful massacre, as it described, offering its condolences to the victims’ families and expressed its solidarity with Iraqi people and leadership.

The SDC stressed on the necessity of cooperation between various political parties in Iraq, primarily the central government and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) to support the mass path that rejected the Turkish presence in Iraq from the first moment of the attack.

“We invite the UN and the international community to intervene to put an end to the Turkish brutal actions,” the SDC added.

Earlier on Thursday, the Iraqis protested in front of the Turkish embassy in the capital city Baghdad, condemning the Turkish shelling.

Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi declared a public mourning in the country in memory of the lives of the victims of the Turkish bombing.

It is expected that the Iraqi parliament will hold a session about the recent Turkish aggression and the resolutions that will be taken, according to sources close to the parliament.
