Jordan’s King raises idea of forming Middle East NATO
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Jordan’s King Abdullah II said that he would support the formation of a Middle East military alliance similar to NATO that it can be created with countries that are like-minded.
This came in an interview with CNBC’s Hadley Gamble, an American news channel, on Wednesday that was published on Friday.
“I’m hoping what you’re seeing in 2022 is this new vibe, I guess, in the region to say, ‘how can we connect with each other and work with each other’,” he added.
“I would be one of the first people that would endorse a Middle East NATO….I’d like to see more countries in the area come into that mix,” Abdullah said.
He stressed that the Middle East Alliance should be very clear, and its role should be well defined.
Speaking of the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian war he said, “All of us are coming together and saying ‘how can we help each other.”
He highlighted that prices of energy and commodity soared following unprovoked Russian- Ukrainian war.
Also, he aroused the Iranian issue, saying that the Iranian role in the region is also “a question mark.”
