Iraq arrests three ISIS members near border with Syria

ERBIL, Iraq, KRG (North Press) – On Monday, Iraqi forces announced the arrest of three notable members of the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) in Nineveh Governorate, north Iraq.

The Iraqi Directorate of General Military Intelligence arrested three ISIS members, the directorate said in a statement adding that one of the arrestees is called Abu Yahya, who was arrested on Owainat checkpoint while trying to enter the town of Rabia near border with Syria coming from Mosul.

Abu Yahya is a prominent official in ISIS recruitment office (Diwan al-Jund), the statement read.

One of the two other arrestees is known as Abu Hamza, who operated within al-Bara bin Malik Brigade, and the other is called al-Jarrah, and he operated in Khaled Bin al-Walid Division.  

They were arrested in the district Zummar north of Nineveh Governorate.

Since the beginning of 2022, Zummar district, near the border with Syria, witnessed operations of arresting a number of ISIS members.
