Two members of Turkish-backed SNA killed in Syria’s Manbij
MANBIJ, Syria (North Press) – Two members of the Turkish-backed Syrian opposition factions were killed, Thursday, after an attempt to infiltrate a village in north of Manbij, northern Syria.
Two members of the Turkish-backed Syrian opposition factions (also known as the Syrian National Army, SNA) were killed after three attempts to infiltrate the village of al-Mehsinli.
The infiltration failed after clashes with light and heavy weapons, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) media center said on its official website.
The artillery shelling that targeted the city of Manbij today is one of the attempts that come within the framework of the escalation of a new potential Turkish military operation in northeast Syria, the SDF Media center noted.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on May 23 that he would launch a military operation against the Syrian north, claiming to complete a project named safe zone to settle about one million Syrian refugees in areas to where they do not belong.
Media Center of the Manbij Military Council said on Thursday it thwarted an infiltration attempt by Turkish-backed Syrian opposition factions in north of Manbij.
Turkish forces bombed on Wednesday the villages of Awn al-Dadat and al-Mehsinli in north of Manbij with heavy weapons.
The city of Manbij and its countryside were liberated from ISIS in 2016 by the SDF with support of the US-led Global Coalition. It is now being run by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).
The AANES was first formed in 2014 in the Kurdish-majority regions of Afrin, Kobani and Jazira in northern Syria following the withdrawal of the government forces. Later, it was expanded to Manbij, Tabqa, Raqqa, Hasakah and Deir ez-Zor after the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) defeated ISIS militarily.
