SDF, coalition capture ISIS leader in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Thursday capturing a local leader in the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) in a security operation by its Special Units in a town east of Deir ez-Zor, a city in eastern Syria.

The SDF said in a statement published on its official website that “SDF Special Units… conducted a security operation targeting an ISIS terrorist cell in the al-kishma area” in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

The operation resulted in arresting the cell’s leader who was planning for more terrorist attacks “against civilians, employees, and military and security forces,” the statement added.

The operation was carried out with ground and air support from the US-led Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, the statement read.

“Documents and weapons were also confiscated during the operation,” it added.

The statement said that the operation was part of the joint efforts between the SDF and the coalition to counter ISIS, “maintain security and stability, and protect local populace from the threats of the terrorist cells.”
