Russian-Turkish forces conduct joint patrol in Syria’s Kobani
KOBANI, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, Russian Military Police (MP) and Turkish forces conducted a joint military patrol in the western countryside of the city of Kobani, northern Syria.
This is the 98th patrol between the two forces in the region since the signing of the Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement.
In October 2019, following a Turkish military operation in areas of northeast Syria, the Turkish president signed two ceasefire agreements, one with Russia and the other with the US.
The ceasefire agreements stipulating halt of all hostilities there and the withdrawal of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) 30 kilometers in depth away from the Turkish border in addition to conducting joint patrols with Russia in order to monitor the implementation of the agreements.
The patrol, which consisted of eight Russian and Turkish military vehicles, set off from the village of Ashma, 20 kilometers west of Kobani.
It roamed the villages of Chareqli Fouqani, Jebnah, Bayada, reaching to Zor Maghar, which is the last village west of Kobani.
After that the patrol immediately returned from Zor Maghar heading east passing by the villages of Binder, Mishko, Jebnah, Qaraqwi Tahtani, Kola, Sosan, reaching a checkpoint of the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) near a radio tower west of Kobani.
The patrol then immediately returned to the starting point in the village of Ashma, passing through the villages of Seftak, Qaran, Boban, Khor Khori, Dikmdash, Qeran and Chareqli Fouqani.
The Turkish military vehicles returned to Turkey through the gate near Ashma, while the Russian military vehicles returned to their position near the town of Sirrin south of Kobani.
On May 9, the 97th Russian-Turkish patrol in the region was conducted in the eastern countryside of Kobani.
