Rocket attack targets Ain al-Assad Airbase

ERBIL, IRAQ (North Press) –  On Saturday, rockets hit Ain al-Assad Airbase, which hosts US and other international forces in Iraq.

“Three Grad missiles landed on the vicinity of Ain al-Assad military base in Anbar Governorate, western Iraq,” Iraqi media outlets reported a security source in the Anbar Operations Command.

“The attack caused no material damage or casualties,” the source added.

Ain al-Asad has been the frequent target of rocket attacks attributed to Iran-backed Shiite militias operating both in Iraq and Syria. The base was also targeted by Iranian ballistic missiles in January 2020, after the US killed Qasim Suleimani in Baghdad with an air attack. Suleimani was Tehran’s top Middle East operator.
