Turkish drone hits PMF military post in Iraq’s Mosul
ERBIL, KRG, Iraq (North Press) – A Turkish drone bombarded a military post of Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) on Tuesday morning on the outskirt of Bashiqa town in the north of Mosul city, northern Iraq.
The PMF is an Iraqi state-sponsored umbrella organization composed of approximately 67 different armed factions, with around 128,000 fighters that are mostly Shia Muslim.
An eyewitness from Bashiqa told North Press that the targeted post was located in Jarbou’ah village, 7 km away from Bashiqa.
In turn, the PMF added no comment so far. A commander of the PMF gave no answer to North Press correspondent when asked about the incident.
In 2015, Turkey established Zelikan military base on the hill of Bashiqa and it remained there despite Iraq reiterated calls to expel it.
In early April, Zelikan military base was targeted twice with rockets. No party claimed responsibility for the attack.
